Optimal campfire cooking with the Suspendable Grill

Cooking over a campfire offers unique flavors and pleasure. Although simple, it is not always an easy way to prepare a meal! One of the greatest challenges is precise control of cooking temperature. Good luck controlling a campfire perfectly! Campers work with unknowns, like the wood quantity and quality they find. Wood has different stages of burning and different heating levels. Yes, good control of fire is not that difficult, but it is not as easy as turning a switch on a yard barbecue! Fires are not uniform and some areas will be hotter than others. People have relatively little control of the location they visit. Will the fire be on rocks, sand, forest floor, in a fire ring? How much time is allocated to grilling food? A couple of hours or 30 minutes? It takes time to do a good job at it. Outdoor people need control and precision to their grilling. That’s why we designed the suspendable grill

Many outdoorsmen love tripods and quick rigs, but why? First: they are easy to build with deadwood and shrubs around, especially in wilderness areas. There are plenty of campfire tripods you can buy in the current market, but they all come in cumbersome setups. They are OK if you stay on a basecamp or if you travel with a vehicle. But if you prefer backpacking, bushcraft, wilderness travel, ultralight options are needed. Second: suspending food over a campfire offers the ability to adjust precisely the cooking temperature.

That’s where the grill shines: easily move it up and down to find the optimal cooking temperature. It is best to cook over coals, but sometimes the coals are not hot enough, and reviving the fire is needed. Easy solution: move the grill up by bringing the tripod legs together and reviving the flames! Leave the grill over the flames, it’s fine as long as the flames don’t touch the food directly. Once there are fewer flames and the coals are hot enough, lower the grill again. Note that the suspendable grill is also a must-have in winter. When snow covers the ground the grill offers convenience because it is much more difficult to find snow-covered rocks or logs to stabilize a grill over the fire anyway.

As with any tool, there is a tradeoff with the suspendable grill. It can feel a bit shaky when turning the food on it. Being so light, and suspended it acts a bit like a swing! Easy fix: use two utensils to turn the food. One utensil stabilizes the grill while the other turns the food.

Overall, the upsides of the grill for wilderness lovers can’t be ignored. It’s small and compact, enough for two people or a small family. Being made of titanium it’s ultralight and ultra-resistant. A recommended utensil for backpackers because it’s so compact. It won’t take a lot of volume in a backpack. Furthermore, it can be used like any small grill: remove the two hanging wires and voilà! Use it in a standard fashion, in between two rocks or logs. It’s the versatility that makes the suspendable grill at home in the wildest parts of the World.
